Reposted after being ID'd by coinwate as French crown of the sun, or half. Required mass (weight) is 3.4 grams for the full, and 1.7 grams for the half crown. Made in Antwerp, around 1540-1575, unless you can see a year (after 1576) in two digits. Can't tell if there is an initial for the maker's name

Hi guys,


The crown of the sun as it was called in England, French ecu au soleil, was allowed as one of the few foreign coins in England.


Of course the merchants brought their weights with them, and they, like anything else got lost. So you guys can find History wherever it peeps.


Great to see you post your finds in the coinweights section.
