Half French Crown of the Sun

Hi,
This weight was made in France but found in East Yorkshire, important trading ground for all kinds of merchants dealing in England around 1500. The weight shows, like the coin, a small sun above the crowned French shield. The mass of the weight is only 1.6234 g which is 95.1% correct based on the tolerance weight prescribed by the authorities at that time. The weight is in very fine condition (500 years in the ground!)and has a pleasing black patina, something that does not quite come through in this scan. The reverse is blank like most early weights as it was not required for the makers to identify themselves.

Questions are always welcome.
