Bronze wolf figurine 2.1/4 inches head to tail, the body is cast and the cone fabricated from copper alloy and rivetted under the body of the figurine. It came froma Roman site this week. Is it Roman and was was it's purpose.

Mike, great photo, how did you arrive at a wolf???
Very strange piece all the same, will be interesting to see if others have
found something similar.

I am told that it may have some religious connections and that the cone was possibly a reservoir for oil in which a wick would be lit. It's off to the FLO next week and if I get anything more positive I will post it here.

Just to set the record straight I have now discovered that this is a Medieval candle holder dating from the 14th century and would have graced a Church or other fine building. It is missing it's base which would have been circular. It is a dog (not a wolf) and I am informed that it is a very rare find.
